As the racing season comes to a close for another year here at Townsville, the last night of racing at the showgrounds was an event not be missed with a special appearance by the one and only man in the red suit himself, Santa Claus! who was at trackside to say hello to all his friends at the showgrounds.
The last event on the racing calendar in Townsville was the Townsville City Council Mayors Trophy. This prestigious event was held last Tuesday night with it being a one off event. The best eight selected greyhounds in Townsville and in Queensland. This was how the box draw panned out for the event.

On form guide selections, from box one Ima Hornet trained by Raymond Burman looked a promising chance as a first starter here at the showgrounds along with last start winner Are They Now who is looking for win number ten after recently finishing fifth in the latest Cairns Young Guns. As the runners where loaded into the boxes the betting prices at the present time, punters saw the favourite Are They Now at $2.80 and Herman John at $4.50.
With the field jumping neatly Ima Hornet held the lead right up into the back straight but the mad railer from box four Don't Listen, found herself a gap to the front and was no chance of stopping to the finish trained by Brad Belford over 2nd Fuelled Fantasy and 3rd Herman John in the time of 29.24. During the night of the night Brad also had five winners including Don't Listen, Mortus Maximus, Minor Work, Stealthy Express and Cypress Point.
The Townsville showgrounds also had another special guest, Townsville City Council's Tony Parsons who was also on trackside to be at the presentation to present the trophy to the winner and the connections.
