NEWS - 23 March 2010
Our General meeting was held last night for all members of the Townsville Greyhound Racing Club unfortunately due to the rain we only had a few members able to attend. A general discussion was held to discuss the recent developments of the club.
At the Greyhound of the Year in Brisbane this year Chairman of Greyhounds Queensland, Ms Kerry Watson, announced that the Board had approved funding towards the upgrading of our facilities here at Townsville. We would also like to thank Mr Chris Williams for his support in putting Townsville's needs and wants to the Board. To this end, the Committee have ordered a new Semaphore Board which will be installed as our first priority, we are currently looking at an upgrade to the fencing on the track, cover over the 380m boxes, repairs to our lights, loam for the track, race preview area and various other items to make our track look more professional to the Sky viewers.
We have already installed 3 new digital televisions in the Town & Country so that punters are able to view races and enabling the TAB to be better accessed easier and faster. Please come on up and take a look.
A Big Thank You must go to Jonathon Thurston and Luke O'Donnell for taking the time to give the supporters of Cowboy Billy and Townsville Greyhounds their time by signing and autographing various items last Tuesday night. A great night was had and hopefully we will have many more to come. Go Cowboy Billy!!
Finish-On Lure
Within the next few weeks the club will be receiving a Finish-On Lure. This has been a decision from Greyhounds Queensland who has directed that Townsville will be using this lure. The lure will be used on Trial nights for approximately 4-6 weeks until it has a final approval. Then it will be used for race nights. Obviously there will be various items that will need to be sorted out during this time to ensure that both trainers and greyhounds are properly trained in the use of the lure.
Maiden Races
Over the next 2 months the Committee has decided to run an extra 2 maiden events to enable our new maidens to start here careers in racing. The dates are as follows:
30 March 2010 380m Maiden Heats
6 April 2010 380m Maiden Final (Winner $700)
27th April 2010 380m Maiden `1000' Heats
4 May 2010 380m Maiden `1000' Final (Winner $1000)
15 June 2010 380m Maiden `1000' Heats
22nd June 2010 380m Maiden `1000' Final (Winner $1000)
Catering
Our move to the Town & Country has been a huge success. Hot meals are available from 6:15pm. Come along and see what wonderful choices the ladies and gentlemen have for you each week. The Catering ladies would also welcome and help that you can give, even if this is making a cake or dessert once a month. So go along and have a chat with Marilyn, Judy and Gerda - They are always up for a chat and a laugh.

Greyhound of the Year - 2009
On Saturday night at the Bellevue Hotel our Greyhound of the Year 2009 Function was held, and all the participants had a fantastic night.
Congratulations must go to the connections of `Bronsan Miss' Greyhound of the year, trained by Michael Campbell and owned by Colin Bell.
Other awards for 2009, went to the following:
Trainer of the Year - Michael Campbell
Trainer Strike Rate - Michael Hickmott
Owner of the Year - Brad Belford

Stud Dog (TGBOTA) - Archie Valentine
Brood Bitch (TGRC) - Absolute Chaos
Brood Bitch (TGBOTA) - Bita Money
Catcher of the Year - Bernie Fraser
Vacant Committee Positions
The three vacant positions were filled last night at a special meeting held by the Committee. The positions will be taken up by Sam Walker, Brad Belford and Nathan Goodwin. We welcome Sam, Brad and Nathan onto our committee and look forward to working with them towards making our Townsville Club an exciting and positive venue. Our thanks also must go to the other nominees for taking the time to nominate.
Gary Heath has been voted to the position of President and Marilyn Randall, Vice-President for the duration of this financial year.
Sponsor
We would like to welcome Garrard's Horse and Hound onto the Townsville Track, they have become a major sponsor of the 380m boxes and we look forward to a positive working relationship with them. Their store at 38 Carmel Street, Garbutt has all that the greyhound trainer needs to keep their greyhounds fit and healthy. So drop in and see Greg and Beckie for all your greyhound requirements Monday to Friday.
Trials
Unfortunately last Thursday night there was some confusion as to whether we would have trials or not considering the rain that fell in a very short space of time. Obviously our first consideration must be whether the track is in a safe condition in which to run our dogs and the rainfall at the time. It was decided that all calls should go to the office on 0747 741721 and you will be advised at the earliest opportunity. If we are able we will hold trials.
Also we must thank Margaret Bernstone for the wonderful job she is doing of directing trials on the night. Thanks Margaret.
Catering
Thank you for your support of our catering. Our move to the office at this time seems to be working well and we still have a great range of items for sale.
Well done Marilyn, Judy and Gerda and not forgetting Errol - Fantastic Job.
Finishlynx
Our finishlynx is back up and running again, so take the time to look on the website for those finishes.
See you at the races.

Townsville Cup
The Townsville Greyhound club are delighted with the rollup for this years 2009 Clockwork Couriers Cup. The night was well attended by our Southern and Northern trainers and also the people of Townsville who have come out to support this night, making it a resounding success.
Ryan's A Rocket 1st, Luva Drink (Ron Ball quinella) & Bogie Bomber (Tony Brett)
The winner of the 2009 Townsville Clockwork Courier Cups, $15000 first prize was taken out by Ryan's A Rocket, trainer Ron Ball for owner Bill Crooks who attended the night. Ron Ball took out the quinella with the second place going to Luva Drink by 4 lengths and a head to Bogie Bomber third. Townsville runner See Through for trainer Neville Waters came 4th after an action packed race. The winner stayed out of trouble from the boxes staying on the rail and quickly went to the front on the back straight; he ran 29.41 in a convincing win.
